Veterinary size by animal weight
Choose on the animal’s weight, then confirm the length. Small (18 x 32 in) is for animals under 9 kg / 20 lb, such as cats, rabbits and puppies. Medium (24 x 39 in) covers 10–29 kg / 22–64 lb, Large (31 x 46 in) covers 30–50 kg / 66–110 lb (Labrador or German Shepherd size), and Extra Large (40 x 58 in) is for animals over 50 kg / 110 lb. How to pick a body bag size
Start with the decedent’s height and the widest point of the body, not only weight. A broad build can need the 56 in wide bariatric bag before it reaches a standard bag’s weight rating. For children, match to height and go up a size if the fit is close; the pediatric range steps down from Teen to Fetus in five sizes.
Interior versus exterior dimensions
The dimensions in this chart are Medgear’s listed figures for each bag. They are not stated as interior or exterior measurements, so treat them as nominal. If you are standardizing a protocol around a tight fit, request a sample and measure it yourself.
Thickness: 10 mil and 8 mil
The standard, bariatric and pandemic bags are 10 mil. The teen, youth, child, infant, fetal and L-shape bags are 8 mil. The veterinary bags are 10 mil. The sheeting is 3 mil. Thickness is listed per product above so the chart cannot disagree with the product pages.

What size is a standard body bag?
Medgear’s Standard Body Bag is 38 x 94 in (96.5 x 238.8 cm), 10 mil, listed up to 300 lb. The version with six handles is 38 x 98 in (96.5 x 248.9 cm) and is listed up to 350 lb.
When should I choose a bariatric body bag over a standard bag?
When the decedent is beyond a standard bag’s listed weight (300 lb, or 350 lb with handles) or is too broad to close it without strain. The bariatric bag is 56 x 104 in and listed at 500+ lb.
What size body bag is used for a child or infant?
Medgear lists the Teen bag at 32 x 94 in, Youth at 32 x 70 in, Child at 25 x 50 in, Infant at 16 x 25 in and Fetus at 12 x 16 in. All are 8 mil.
Are the listed dimensions interior or exterior?
Medgear’s product data gives a single set of dimensions per bag and does not say whether they are measured inside or outside the seams. If a close fit matters, ask for a sample or confirm with Medgear before you order.
